Transgender Care and Gender-Affirming Surgery

Mission Statement

To provide comprehensive and compassionate care in a healthy and comfortable environment for the evaluation and treatment of individuals considering gender-affirming surgery.

Gender-Affirming Surgery Program at Yale Urology

The Gender-Affirming Surgery Program at Yale Urology is the first program in the Northeast to offer gender-affirming surgery for transgender patients. A successful patient experience with gender-affirming surgery, which has historically been referred to as gender confirming surgery, gender reassignment surgery (GRS) or sex reassignment surgery (SRS), requires a team with the training and expertise to competently and sensitively serve the needs of transgender patients. Our dedicated team of doctors in urology and plastic surgery, nurses, social workers, patient representatives, and administrative staff, want to make the patient experience as seamless and comfortable as possible.

The program is led by Dr. Stanton Honig, a reproductive and reconstructive urologic microsurgeon with expertise in gender-affirming surgery. At this time, the program exclusively offers the full range of procedures for male-to-female gender transition, including orchiectomy, clitoroplasty, vaginoplasty and labiaplasty.
